After some further investigation this looks like a driver issue on Linux with the NVIDIA version 396.24. This is caused by NVIDIA and Unity not working well together on this version. We tested that this no longer occurs on NVIDIA version 390.48. This is out of our scope to fix and we will have to await a Unity/NVIDIA update on this.


We can however suggest a workaround: You can install the "nvidia-driver-390" package via the update manager. This driver is more stable than the 396 version. It could be that the 396 one day fixes it self but we have no information on this.

Yes, after the update on the 9th of May.

Your issue is a bit different from the other users. You need to install the correct AMD drivers for your AMD graphics card. Right now you seem to be using Open Source NVIDIA drivers which causes the rendering to fallback to MESA which won't work with our games.

If you could all submit your Crash Dumps (.dmp file) then we can forward this to Unity to have them investigate and fix this.

I am not finding any .dmp files in the relevant game folder.  Should I be looking elsewhere?

dmp files are saved in /tmp/dumps (at least on my Manjaro machine)

Nothing in the folders of: ~/.config/unity3d/WW1GameSeries/WW1GameSeries ?

I tried running steam with different LD_PRELOAD folders / *.so libraries, thinking it's my fault at the begining :)

These are Steam error files correct? this does not seem like an issue with the game but rather an issue with the Steam client. Hope you can shed some lights on where you found these logs.

I don't know if steam or the game created the dmp files, but their names and location (/tmp/dumps) are mentioned in the terminal log i pasted in earlier post.

Awaiting 3rd Party Fix

After some further investigation this looks like a driver issue on Linux with the NVIDIA version 396.24. This is caused by NVIDIA and Unity not working well together on this version. We tested that this no longer occurs on NVIDIA version 390.48. This is out of our scope to fix and we will have to await a Unity/NVIDIA update on this.


We can however suggest a workaround: You can install the "nvidia-driver-390" package via the update manager. This driver is more stable than the 396 version. It could be that the 396 one day fixes it self but we have no information on this.

Do  you have a link to this issue so we can follow it?  Also, you need to purge all prior Nvidia drivers before rolling back to 390, correct?

It is always best to do a clean re-install just to be safe. We have no link for you to follow yet on the status of this as it is unclear if it is a Unity or NVIDIA issue. Most likely it is a Unity issue and we will have to await a patch or upgrade to Unity 2018.

i look in the forum. revert back to nvidia driver 390.59 verdun and tannenberg start fine. so it is a driver bug in the 396.24 version.
